SUPPORT

FTP

To FTP your site, follow these simple instructions:

Step 1 - Get FTP software.
For Windows users, go to www.tucows.com and download and install "WS_FTP" or your favorite FTP program. For MAC users, go to www.tucows.com and download FETCH.

If you are using an HTML editor (ie: FrontPage or DreamWeaver) please note the instructions provided. Please also heed this helpful bit of advice: learn how to code your own HTML manually rather than relying on these programs as they tend to (a) code poorly, (b) overcode and make pages hard to maintain, (c) are behind in the latest code available and (d) are tricky with configurations, settings, etc. and cause quite a few of our clients (and clients of other hosting companies) unnecessary grief.

Step 2 - Configure your FTP software.
After unzipping and installing your ftp software, you need to configure it for your ftp site with us. For WS_FTP users:

(a) In the Profile area, put in the name of your site (ie: mycompany)
(b) In the Host/Server area, put in your domain name, with or without the www. Example: yourdomain.com
(c) In the drop-down area, choose: Auto Detect.
(d) In the user name area, enter your user name that you were given in our welcome email we sent you. Example: userjoe
(e) In the password area, enter the password that you were given in our welcome email we sent you. Example: joe4567
(f) Hit the "Connect" button. (or the equivalent).

For MAC users, follow the above with your FETCH program. The names of the fields are almost the same.

Step 3 - Once you connect, you will be in your "root" director of your web space*.
You can now use the left side of WS_FTP to find files on your hard drive on your computer and then select them and move them to the right side (the web server). To move files from your hard drive to the server, select the file(s) or folder(s) and then click the small arrow that is in between the left and right window. With WS_FTP Pro, you simple drag the files from left to right and they automatically upload. Do this step in reverse to move files from the server down to your local computer.

* Some customers may see a "wwwroot" directory already in your root space. If this is the case, double click to open this directory and THEN you will be in the place where you can upload web content.

Note: FTP will overwrite files without warning. Be sure that if you are FTP'ing a file up to the server that is already on the server with the same name, you are sure that you want to do that. Also, FTP will NOT allow you to upload files from a floppy directly to the server. You must copy from the floppy to the hard drive first.

Happy FTP'ing.

Contact: support@e50.com for any help with this.

EMAIL (POP)

Setting up email on the server.

Step #1:
Before you configure your Outlook to check incoming email from our server, you first need to create your email accounts on our server.

Web Based Administration
Now, over the web, you can administrate and control your user names, passwords, auto-responders, forwarding, etc!
Here is how you can manage your email settings:

(a) Go to: http://mail.yourdomain.com:8383
(b) Your special admin USERNAME is: admin@yourdomain.com (where "yourdomain.com" is your actual domain name).
(c) Your PASSWORD is the admin password you were assigned by us. Use that here. By default is will be "admin" + the first 3 letter of your domain name. (no quotes around admin when you type it).
(d) Once you are logged in, click the "Continue" text link. You will notice that you can control your email settings
.
Most of our customers set up POP accounts on our server. This can be done by clicking on the User Administration link and creating a user name and passowrd. Example: "sales" with password "sales4me" (without the quotes).
If you would prefer to have your email forwarded to another address, use the Alias Administration feature instead.

You can check your email from a web browser with our Web Based eMail server!

(a) Go to: http://mail.yourdomain.com:8383 (where "yourdomain.com" is your actual domain name).
(b) your USERNAME will be your FULL email address. Example: joe@yourdomain.com
(c) your PASSWORD will be the SAME password used with outlook that was assigned to you.

Note: You can use your web browser to check email on the web from anywhere in the world!

Note: e50 will offer free hosting and email tech support. However, if you choose to administrate the email settings on your own, please be sure you know what you are doing and that you know why you are doing it. We are not able to provide free support to undo unintended mistakes that are made. Feel free to ask us any questions you wish to BEFORE you make changes if you are unsure. Those questions and our answers are provided at no charge to you BEFORE you make the changes.

Step #2:
Note: Below is how to configure your Outlook Express client and most versions of Outlook. If you need instructions for how to use our web based email control panel, or view your email via a web browser, click here.

To set up the ability for you to check POP email, you need to go into your Outlook/Outlook Express and Set your incoming POP account information to check email from:

mail.yourdomain.com (example: mail.coolcompany.com)
your user name is: your FULL email address (example: joe@coolcompany.com)
your password is: password you set up in step #1 above.

"POP email" means that you will be checking for email from our server, at your:

username@yourdomain.com (email address).

Step by Step:
NOTE: This is similar for Outlook, Netscape and Eudora eMail

(1) Go to TOOLS menu, and pull down to ACCOUNTS

(2) When the Internet Accounts box pops up, there will be grey tabs along the top. Select MAIL tab.

(2.1) You should see an account that is already there, your current account that your ISP gave you. Highlight it and hit the PROPERTIES button. Then click on the SERVER tab at the top. On a piece of paper, write down EXACTLY what it says for Outgoing Mail Server (not Incoming). You will use this in step 6 below.

(3) Then hit the ADD button and choose mail.

(4) Enter your name and hit NEXT

(5) Click the top radio button and enter your email address: username@yourdomain.com and hit NEXT

(6) Enter (for incoming mail server): mail.yourdomain.com but for outgoing, put in the info you found in step 2.1 above (or what your ISP assigned you for OUTGOING) and click NEXT
Note: e50 will NOT relay open mail OUTBOUND - so you need to make sure your OUTGOING mail settings are with your ISP.

(7) Enter your user and password on this screen and make sure the little check box for "remember password" is clicked. Do not click any other check boxes (make sure the secure password authentication is empty). Click NEXT.

(8) Click Finish.

Assuming you did 1-8 correctly, you should now be able to collect mail from us and from your ISP (whoever that is). Also, you should be able to send mail at will.

Note #1: If you do NOT need to collect email from your ISP, simply skip step 2.1 (or delete) the account that you already set up before you started this.

Note #2: There is a known issue with Netscape (some versions) not working well with these settings. Contact us if you have problems. For other people in your office that want their own accounts, you will need to have them do 1-8 above for their outlooks as well.

If you need any further help, please send your name, domain name and the description of the issue to: support@e50.com

CGI SCRIPTS

You do NOT need to make a directory called: cgi-bin unless you want to. You can put your scripts ANYWHERE you want in your site. Just make sure you are using asp (.asp extension) or PERL (.pl extension) scripts.
Using CGI scripts involves two things, one is easy, the other can take more time.

Easy part:
e50 support ASP (active server pages) and PERL scripts. All you need to do is upload a valid script to your web site with either a .asp or a .pl file extension and the script should run, granted it is well scripted and is meant to run with your web site. If you need special permissions set on your directories or scripts, let us know the name of the file(s) and/or directory(s) at: support@e50.com

More Difficult part:
The more complicated and feature driven your script, the more parts there are to configure and make work WITHIN the script itself. Some scripts require databases (We let you upload MS Access DB's for free) and others require complex permissions issues. Since we are your web site hosting company, we provide support around issues relating to HOSTING your web site. Scripts are different than hosting - they are written in languages (ASP is based on VBScript and PERL is it's own programming language). Therefore, we advise that you (a) educate yourself about the script and programming related to the script and/or (b) find someone you know that can configure scripts and set them up properly for you and/or (c) hire e50 to install and set up your script(s) for you on a fee basis.

To get cool scripts that WORK on our server, go to: http://www.scriptarchive.com or http://www.google.com and type the keyword "NT scripts" or "Web Scripts" and find the ones that you want.

(if you are hosting on our UNIX or LINUX platforms, please use scripts designed for those OS's).

Again, we are here to support you and help you make your web site work and be great. To that end, do not hesitate to contact us: support@e50.com

DATABASE

e50 supports MS Access database (included in your basic site hosting), MySQL and MS SQL. MS Access generally works for about 5,000 to 50,000 queries on the DB per day (24hrs). If you expect more than that, or need high end, complex DB tables, etc., you may want to use MS SQL.

DSN's
e50 can set up a DSN for you for either MS Access or SQL. With Access, you can build DSN-less connections to your database.

SQL
With SQL, you get special SA access and can tie into the MMC console to manage your database. All of this is included when you set up your SQL DB with us (including initial DSN's).

Placement
Most clients find that placing their DB in their web site area is fine. If you want to put your DB in a non-web accessible area, let us know and we can set that up for you.

As always, we want your Database to work, enhance your site, etc. Let us know if we can help in any way at: support@e50.com.

FREE SHOPPING CART

e50 offers you your own free shopping cart. The link below is a ZIP file that you (a) download and then (b) modify and then (c) upload to your web server space.

After unzipping the file, you MUST read the "readme.txt" file AND the "documentation.htm" file if you want this cart to work. The instructions you need to know about are in there. Also, when you unzip the files, you will notice an index.html file already created. This is an example of the cart - and you can (if you want to) modify it and then rename it somethhing other than index.html and upload it to your site.

NOTE: Within the ZIP package is an .exe file. DO NOT upload this file to your web server space. It is a program that will NOT run online (so don't bother trying) and is intended to be run locally on your computer at your office or home. It helps you build your cart.

SUPPORT: e50 offers 24/7 free technical support for hosting and email issues. We do not offer free technical support to help you build your shopping cart. If you feel that the carts operation (or in-operation) is hosting related, let us know at: support@e50.com

WEB STATS

As a hosting customer, you may elect to turn on "web stats reporting" of your web site traffic. To do so, please send a written request via email, including your domain name to: support@e50.com . Once you have done this, then at the 1st of each month you will be able to go to:

http://www.yourdomain.com/stats (where "yourdomain.com" needs to be your actual domain name of your site) and view your stats for the previous month.

As always, we want your Stats to work. Let us know if we can help in any way at: support@e50.com.

DNS

e50 runs primary and secondary name servers on separate logical and physical networks.

We provide FREE parking of domain names - so that if you want to register a name but are not ready for your web site to go online, you may use our Primary and Secondary servers to register your name - free of charge and with no obligations. If you are planning to host your web site with us right away (or park your domain name), use the information below:

Primary Name Server (Primary Host)
NS1.E50.COM
